Potential Royal Marines Officers
Educational Standards
For RM Officer selction, as well as 5 GCSE's A*-C (including Maths & English)
the minimum standard for UCAS points is to be increased from the minimum level of 140 UCAS points to eliminate candidates who clearly struggle at AIB, and to better align RN recruiting standards with the other services. The minimum requirement for educational qualifications is to be raised to 180 UCAS points, subject to certain constraints.

Officer Aquaint days
Further to the success of the recent Potential Officers Visit to Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) Lympstone, it is planned to hold two additional acquaints this year. The dates are 21-23 July and 13-15 Oct. Each course can take up to 20 candidates. Food, Accommodation & Travel costs are at MoD expense.

The courses are aimed at individuals who have expressed a serious interest in becoming an Officer in the RM, but may not have fully entered the selection process (i.e. not yet booked onto a POC/AIB or not aiming to join this year-2008). It will be well suited to candidates who are studying their A2-levels or have started university and are thinking of a career as an RM Officer on leaving.

In order to maintain their very high standards, the Royal Marines use a tough screening process to select Young Officers for training. However you have been selected to attend the POC because we think you have shown the qualities that suggest that you are capable of becoming a Royal Marines Officer.

There are 2 stages:

1. The Potential Officers Course
2. The Admiralty Interview Board

Aim of the AIB

The aim of AIB is to assess you in five main areas:

Effective intellect (including Problem Solving).
Leadership potential.
Powers of Communication.
Courage and Values.
Motivation.

Introduction

You should be doing a significant amount of work and research on Service Knowledge (SK) from books, handouts and the website. You should have also thought through your reasons for wanting to become a Royal Marines Officer.
